Bringing change for a sustainable future: the 2025 GSN conference Abu Dhabi

The Global Sustainability Network Abu Dhabi Conference, held on 14 January 2025 saw a collection of leaders, advocates and changemakers convening to discuss and strategise ideas and solutions for issues regarding vulnerability, exclusion and improper conditions, all working towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Goal 8. The aim of the day was to provide valuable insight and understanding in relation to reducing vulnerability and inculcating inclusion.

Propping up these discussions were various panels on multiple topics. The Butterfly participated in the second session of the day titled ‘People of Determination – Learning from the challenges’. Led by Catherine O’Farrell (Founding Partner, Incluzun), the session delved into the importance of inclusion in aligning with SDG Goals as well as uplifting and aiding a vulnerable and significant part of the world population, with the participating speakers talking about these aims from various facets. Our founder, Marilena di Coste talked about the importance of inclusion particularly in terms of job opportunities. She also introduced The Butterfly and what we do to help create a better society for everyone in the long run through our activities and the IEE, helping with the ‘S’ in ESG. Finally, she stressed on the shift from social welfare to economic independence for People of Determination, which provides autonomy and freedom for all.

This session ended with a call to action for businesses and societies to enhance accessibility and support for all individuals, aligning projects with SDG Goal 8 for a better future. We hope to further collaborate with the GSN in future events and opportunities.
